Despite the significant role dance and choreography contributes to the music industry, the Headies Awards has mostly celebrated artistes and producers.

However, the just-concluded edition saw Kaffy; Guinness world record holder, entrepreneur, fitness instructor and one of Nigeria’s most recognized dance artist clinch the special recognition. This highly coveted award has been won by the likes of Victor Nwaifo, Donjazzy and Flavour.

This is a win for the creative industry as a whole and a groundbreaking feat for Kaffy.
Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau-Ameh, is a Nigerian dance mogul who has successfully become a household name in Nigeria’s entertainment and dance industry for 17 years. Born and raised in Lagos State, she obtained a diploma in Data Processing at Olabisi Onobanjo University.

Professionally Kaffy started her career in 2002, but her brand became more internationally recognized when she led a group of Nigerians, in breaking the Guinness World Record for the Longest Dance Party in 2006. Her team broke existing record of 52 hours 4 minutes at 53 hours 40 minutes. Kaffy has performed, choreographed, coordinated and acted as a Judge for a number of events like: The MTN Y’ello Show, Silverbird’s Rhythm Unplugged, MTV Base MAMA Awards 2010, Malta Guinness Street Dance AFRICA with Soulquest 2008, Streethood 2009, X-fellas 2010, Creative Director for the High School Musical: Live on Stage (Nigeria) 2010 and most recently Creative Director for Olamide’s ‘Science Student’ music video 2018.

Kaffy has progressed beyond just dance. As an entrepreneur, she has successfully maintained several brands including her dance agency: Imagneto, a clothing line: Yanga, a chain of facilities that houses a dance studio, gym and boutique: Kaffy’s and is a producer for an Afro dance fitness event called Ijoda which primarily promotes African heritage through dance.

Guinness World Record holder Kaffy, has played a major role in the growth and essence of the art of dance and its relationship in the entertainment and health sectors in Nigeria. The passion that thrives within her is remarkable and has led to several creative ideas as she is eager to see the dance industry stand on its own. She dedicates her time not only to teaching the art of dance, but also to using it as a tool for reformation and motivation.
