The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah has inaugurated Boards of 14 Agencies and Parastatals under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI) in Abuja.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Enelamah charged the Chairmen and members of the Boards to bring their wealth of knowledge and experience to to accelerate the achievements of the mandates of the Agecies in line with the Federal Government’s National Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP) and the Economic Recovery Growth Plan.
According to him the FMITI policy thrust is hinged on facilitating trade, promoting investment and supporting the growth of industries with special focus on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
The Minister charged the newly inaugurated Boards and Governing Councils not to interfere with the day to day running of the agencies and Parastatals but rather to provide sound policy directions to achieve the individual mandates as enshrined in their enabling laws.
Mr. Enelamah enjoined the Board members to avail themselves with the extant rules and guidelines guiding their appointments and urged them to see it as service to the Nation.
He urged them to come up with innovative policies that would support the mandate of the ministry in achieving diversification of the economy, inclusive growth, attraction of investments and supporting small businesses.
“As critical organs for achieving the mandate of the ministry, there is need for you to tailor the policies of the respective agencies to the objectives of the NIRP and the ERGP”, he said.
Welcoming participants to the occasion earlier, Minister of State, FMITI Hajjia Aisha Abubakar expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for the appointment of the Boards which according to her will assist the Ministry in improving on the effectiveness of the Agencies and Parastatals under its supervision.
Responding on behalf of the Board members, the Chairman of National Sugar Development Council of Nigeria (NSDC) Hon. Bolaji Abdullahi also expressed the appreciation of the appointees to Mr President.
He described the appointments and inauguration as long expected and commended the choice of eminent Nigerians with rich pedigrees and experiences as Chairmen and Board members in line with the Federal Government’s focus on ensuring quality engagement and delivery of the dividends of democracy to the Nation.
The Chairman of the NSDC expressed the determination of the Board members to make visible and positive difference in the service delivery of the agencies and Parastatals to the Nation and its people in the shortest possible time.
