Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo, an Oil Mogul cum philanthropist on Monday laid the foundation stone of a proposed multi-million naira ultra-modern Bus Station at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
Laying the foundation stone, High Chief Onunkwo said the gesture was no stunt for attention but humanitarian service to the society. The Founder, Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation stated his commitment towards doing anything good to his alma mater as long as they are within his means. Decrying mediocrity, Engr. Onunkwo charged the contracted Engineer to give in his best as the project is a best way to serve. The Bus station is estimated to have been completed latest by November.
Earlier in his remarks, the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Stanley Udedi expressed gratitude to Engr. Onunkwo for the gesture to his alma mater as well as surprise with the zeal to get the work done under such possible timeframe.
“It’s maddening and honourable how Engr. Onunkwo backed his promise with action,” Professor Udedi said.
In their separate remarks, the Students Union President and the Director of Transport, Comrade Joseph Okafor and Comrade Patrick Mmesirionye were full of thanks to the benefactor for making his word his bond. According to the President, the bus stand has been of utmost concern to every student of the University adding that it would bring a great source of relief to them when completed.
Recall that this ultra-modern bus station construction was promised on the 9th of August during a Transport Summit organized by the Directorate of Transport of the Student Union Government.
