HarvestPlus Nigeria and its partners today flagged off its 4th edition of the Nutritious Food Fair in Lagos. The Nutritious Food Fair (NFF), has grown to become a commercial platform for promoting the production, marketing and consumption of nutritious foods in Nigeria.
The food fair, which is in its fourth edition, has as primary objective to gear political will, markets and research towards increased production of nutritious foods.
NFF first three editions were held in the Federal capital territory (Abuja) in 2015, Calabar International Convention Centre, Tinapa in 2016 and Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, in 2017, were attended by over 15,000 participants and 150 exhibitors from 5 different countries.
This year’s event is expected to attract over 10, 000 participants from within and outside the country.
The 2018 Nutritious Food Fair provides a unique and targeted opportunity for individuals to acquire new skills and explore available opportunities for income generation in the nutritious food sector. Also, it avails participants with the ability to find foreign markets to expand their business with other benefits.
NFF will be attended by stakeholders from research institutions, developmental agencies, government parastatals, private sector, seed companies, herbicide and fertilizer companies, farm and processing equipment manufacturers, food processors among others.
According to HarvestPlus country Manager, Mr Paul Ilona, he stated that the mission of HarvestPlus is to, “develop and scale up the delivery of nutritious crops around the world, so that every child, woman and man who needs them can have access. We also strive to provide global leadership on biofortification evidence and technology.”
HarvestPlus and its partners work in 26 states of Nigeria to promote the availability, adoption and consumption of Vitamin A Cassava, Maize and Orange, sweet Potato. Their goal is that more than 100 million Nigerians will be consuming these biofortified crops by 2030.
The Nutritious Food Fair will hold from the 7th-9th of November 2018, at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
